Men's Khaki Pants

No piece of clothing speaks volumes in fewer words than the term "men's khaki pants." The words are bland, uniform and dependable. And that's just how men's khaki pants are worn.

Khakis emerged from the orderly world of the military, outfitting those who selflessly answered the call "Uncle Sam wants you." Khakis are about discipline, dependability, consistency and conformity. Where there is a job to be done, you will see men wearing khakis.

Necessity made men's khaki pants the post war college uniform of GI's returning home from WWII. Having been issued a pair (or more) for duty, they served as well in the classroom as they did in the field.

Today, men's khaki pants are known for versatility above all. They can be worn almost any way… professionally, recreationally, socially, or just plain casually. They can be pressed, not pressed, creased, not creased, starched or un-starched. Whatever your mood, khakis can match it without a second thought.

It's takes equally as little thought to match khakis with whatever else the day calls for. Ironically, the only color khaki doesn't go with is khaki.

Khakis go with t-shirts, button down shirts, blue blazers or jean jackets. You can really spend your time thinking about other things when packing for a trip. Khakis become the building block for just about everything you'll wear, from the plane to the dinner table, a hike in the mountains or walk downtown.

Men's khaki pants are a great way to live, and to live in.

This is the reason both blue jeans and khakis are all about freedom and the American way, yet they remain opposites. While khakis are about discipline, dependability, consistency and conformity, blue jeans are about change, self-expression, individuality and rebellion. Jeans are more about the person wearing them, where khakis are more about what the person is doing while wearing them (this is why there will never be a market for tight khakis). In short, blue jeans have attitude, khakis are too cool to care.

Is it any wonder why a generation of cultural revolutionaries donned blue jeans bearing patches, rips and tears during the 1960's. Necessity made khakis the post war college uniform of GI's returning home from WWII. They were all they had, and besides, they worked as well in the classroom as they did in the field.

The truth is, most of us identify with both khaki and blue, at least at some point in our lives. Take a look at some old pictures of yourself,…what were you thinking? What you wear says a lot about where you are in life and where your head is.

You could say that khakis were worn by the minds that build this country and jeans where worn by the hands that built this country. Here in lies the secret to our yin and yang. America wouldn't be what it is today without the kind of people who wear both. And most of us do.
